    OpEd: Cats are for life, not just life-saving situations

    I wouldn’t want to pitch cats against dogs too aggressively. However, you might be right in assuming that your cat understands you. The cognitive part of a cat’s brain has 300 million neurons, compared with a dog’s 160 million.

    In addition, cats and humans have almost identical sections of the brain that control emotion. [As, perhaps, do dogs…] The way they communicate is more sophisticated too. Cats make more than 100 different sounds – dogs can only manage a pitiful ten.
